Chatting

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 10 months ago

I had a nice, long conversation with Regina about politics and what's wrong with the United States (and a little bit of wiki miscellany).

lil bit

Session Start (Fidormula:lil bit 166918): Sun Jan 21 20:49:16 2007

(20:49) Fidormula: hello there

(20:49) lil bit 166918: hi

(20:49) Fidormula: Regina, right?

(20:49) lil bit 166918: can i stick with this 'im' or do i have to get a universal...? yes thats me

(20:50) Fidormula: well, there isn't a universal one, really...

(20:50) Fidormula: AOL is the one that most people use though

(20:51) Fidormula: you'll be fine with this one

(20:51) lil bit 166918: its the only one i have evered used. and i stopped using it until i took this class

(20:51) Fidormula: yeah, so did I, actually

(20:51) lil bit 166918: i dont use chat as much as i used too.

(20:52) lil bit 166918: i got on to work on this freesound project.

(20:52) Fidormula: have you tried it yet?

(20:53) lil bit 166918: mm hmm. i found a clip that i really got into of some storm sounds...but its not as easy as u make it look on that screen

(20:53) Fidormula: no, it sure isn't

(20:54) lil bit 166918: did u do yours already?

(20:54) Fidormula: no, I tried to last night, but I wasn't feeling it

(20:54) lil bit 166918: i am going to tell you something...this class sounds like chinese to me. toggling around i am geting better, but this is a big chalenge for me

(20:55) lil bit 166918: *challenge

(20:55) Fidormula: that's ok... pretty much everyone was that way last semester

(20:56) Fidormula: it is more about writing anyway... Trey just has some innovative tools for writing

(20:58) lil bit 166918: I am so glad to be challenged dont get me wrong. i want to write. This is not the same as writing for myself. This is a whole different place

(20:59) Fidormula: hey, that's what school is all about, right?

(20:59) lil bit 166918: yeah. ill give u that.

(21:01) Fidormula: so, what year of school are you in?

(21:01) lil bit 166918: sophmore, ill be a junior in the fall.

(21:02) lil bit 166918: u?

(21:02) Fidormula: I'm on my second year as a senior

(21:03) lil bit 166918: why the second year?

(21:03) Fidormula: I do school part-time

(21:04) Fidormula: there is a chance that I won't even finish next year, but that's ok by me

(21:04) lil bit 166918: very okay. i work full time and only go to school as much as i can each semester. Whats ur major?

(21:04) Fidormula: Technical Writing

(21:05) lil bit 166918: what is your dream job, when your done with school i mean?

(21:06) Fidormula: my dream job... I'd like to write novels, but I'll probably end up as a lawyer or a teacher

(21:07) Fidormula: how about yourself?

(21:07) lil bit 166918: my major is finance with accounting. i love numbers.

(21:08) Fidormula: interesting... so you know Calculus and all of that fun stuff?

(21:11) lil bit 166918: yeah...i still dont know how i am making it through my math courses. Side note: how do i resize a photo in paint.

(21:12) Fidormula: Control+W

(21:13) lil bit 166918: why thank you

(21:13) Fidormula: no problem

(21:13) Fidormula: it is under image as well

(21:14) lil bit 166918: now see, why didnt i think of that

(21:15) Fidormula: newbie ;-)

(21:15) lil bit 166918: yeah seriously

(21:16) lil bit 166918: alright, so once im done sizing the pic, and i save it how do i put it on my wiki

(21:17) Fidormula: once you are logged into the Wiki, you should see a Files button on the same bar as Edit Page

(21:17) Fidormula: and New Page and all of that

(21:18) Fidormula: once you get there, you should be fine

(21:21) Fidormula: got it?

(21:21) lil bit 166918: ha!

(21:22) lil bit 166918: no.

(21:22) Fidormula: no? ok

(21:22) Fidormula: (Link: http://enc3310zine.pbwiki.com/f/DSC00060.JPG)http://enc3310zine.pbwiki.com/f/DSC00060.JPG

(21:22) Fidormula: ?

(21:22) lil bit 166918: i got it. i just didnt size it right. the picture was small but there was all this white space. yes thats it. its my nephew

(21:23) Fidormula: I can barely see him

(21:23) lil bit 166918: lol i know

(21:23) lil bit 166918: what did i do?

(21:23) Fidormula: I have no clue

(21:23) Fidormula: I've never seen this before

(21:23) lil bit 166918: lol...

(21:23) Fidormula: hmmm....

(21:23) lil bit 166918: i am good for that

(21:24) lil bit 166918: okay. lets try another

(21:24) Fidormula: hehe

(21:24) Fidormula: I think I might know...

(21:24) Fidormula: did you paste it?

(21:25) lil bit 166918: no..

(21:25) Fidormula: then I don't know

(21:27) lil bit 166918: me either. except when i am in the paint area and i resize it, it creates white space around the picture

(21:27) Fidormula: it shouldn't

(21:28) Fidormula: you are using Stretch and Skew, right?

(21:28) lil bit 166918: english?

(21:28) Fidormula: that's what the window says

(21:28) lil bit 166918: i hit select all and drage it to the size i want.

(21:28) Fidormula: you click on Image and it says that

(21:28) Fidormula: that's not how it works

(21:29) lil bit 166918: lol

(21:29) lil bit 166918: thanks i c that.

(21:29) lil bit 166918: how does it work?

(21:29) Fidormula: click image

(21:29) Fidormula: click Stretch/Skew

(21:29) lil bit 166918: lol i see that now. thank you, again.

(21:30) Fidormula: make sure you don't have anything selected before you do that

(21:31) lil bit 166918: so dont hit select all?

(21:31) Fidormula: nope

(21:31) Fidormula: you don't want anything to be selected

(21:32) lil bit 166918: uh oh

(21:32) lil bit 166918: oh no...i did it again

(21:32) Fidormula: uh oh

(21:35) lil bit 166918: oh my god! it is a miracle. i did it.

(21:35) Fidormula: good job

(21:35) lil bit 166918: thanks

(21:38) Fidormula: nice neighborhood

(21:39) lil bit 166918: lol. not mine. but i loved the sun set

(21:39) lil bit 166918: and look i did a second one

(21:40) lil bit 166918: ...

(21:40) Fidormula: Florida's great, huh?

(21:40) lil bit 166918: lol. yeah. im not always a big fan. but it can make some great photography moments

(22:07) Fidormula: so, do you want to try doing the IM assignment, or are you all wikied out?

(22:08) lil bit 166918: no im still doing pictures lol...

(22:08) Fidormula: ok

(22:08) lil bit 166918: i mean, no im not wikied out

(22:09) Fidormula: alright, well, I'll be around if you want to try when you are finished

(22:10) lil bit 166918: okay i am almost done, i am trying to put text on a pic...very challenging

(22:10) Fidormula: it is nearly impossible unless you are using paint

(22:13) lil bit 166918: agh!!!! fu**! lol

(22:14) Fidormula: uh oh

(22:14) Fidormula: what's wrong?

(22:14) lil bit 166918: its putting a box around the words..why!

(22:15) Fidormula: are you using paint?

(22:16) lil bit 166918: yes but i am trying to put the text on the edit page...

(22:18) Fidormula: hmmm...

(22:18) lil bit 166918: i am tired enough to just leave it for today.

(22:18) Fidormula: that's nearly impossible if you want the text to be on top of the image

(22:18) lil bit 166918: so whats the chat assignment

(22:19) Fidormula: I'm never really sure when it come's to Trey's assignments

(22:19) lil bit 166918: lol oh good. here i thought it was just us 'newbies'

(22:19) Fidormula: nah, I just realize that he does it on purpose

(22:20) Fidormula: (Link: http://enc3310zine.pbwiki.com/The%20Fundamentals%20of%20Dialogue)http://enc3310zine.pbwiki.com/The%20Fundamentals%20of%20Dialogue(Link: http://enc3310zine.pbwiki.com/The%20Fundamentals%20of%20Dialogue)

(22:20) lil bit 166918: i finally caught on to that. but what do you do in the mean time

(22:20) Fidormula: anything that you can possibly use for the final project

(22:21) Fidormula: well, anything really

(22:22) lil bit 166918: alright, you being a little bit better at this than me...what would you like you final project to be based on.

(22:22) Fidormula: I don't know... I've actually been thinking about it for a few months now...

(22:23) Fidormula: maybe something satirical and/or political

(22:23) lil bit 166918: i got into the 9/11 truth movement it really pushed me into political view points

(22:24) Fidormula: I'm not sure which version of the truth that is about... mind explaining?

(22:26) lil bit 166918: there is no truth.

(22:26) Fidormula: you mean, presently?

(22:26) lil bit 166918: every story has two sides.

(22:26) lil bit 166918: and do u know how many stories came out of 9/11

(22:26) Fidormula: thousands

(22:26) lil bit 166918: right.

(22:26) Fidormula: I don't know

(22:27) lil bit 166918: i have read so many books, and not one has confirmed the last.

(22:27) Fidormula: figures

(22:27) Fidormula: it's all just theory, right?

(22:27) lil bit 166918: exactly.

(22:28) Fidormula: and so, what some call the defining marker of our generation has been reduced to a guessing game

(22:28) lil bit 166918: even the movies that come out that people believe, have counter-parts that come out after that are arguments of the first

(22:29) Fidormula: hmm...

(22:29) lil bit 166918: do u remember where you were when it happened?

(22:29) Fidormula: school

(22:30) lil bit 166918: ditto. i was in my first journalism class. we turned the television on to catch a story and observe technique. instead we watched the second plane hit. i wrote about it for the rest of the year

(22:30) Fidormula: why?

(22:31) lil bit 166918: now i dont know. i suppose for the same reason that i still read about it. i am looking for a good reason why something like that could happen in 2000's when we are so intelligent. Maybe too intelligent?

(22:32) Fidormula: I argue that society as a whole is too unintelligent

(22:32) Fidormula: and so they believe what those in power tell them

(22:34) lil bit 166918: could be. however, they may be to intelligent. and they dont what to think, or know, or be forced to care.

(22:34) Fidormula: are you looking for a reason why the "attacks" could happen or are you looking for why there is so much noise and so little truth?

(22:35) lil bit 166918: that is a really solid question.

(22:35) Fidormula: depending upon what you believe, both parts can have the same answer

(22:36) lil bit 166918: i am looking for a reason why we cant as humans always be compassionate...or empathetic.n

(22:36) lil bit 166918: why is there so much noise, and no solution.

(22:37) Fidormula: you know, the easy answer is that those in power don't want us to be compassionate

(22:37) lil bit 166918: whats the hard answer?

(22:37) Fidormula: people have been bred to be selfish and conniving and will never change

(22:38) Fidormula: as people are further bred, they will further in selfishness

(22:38) lil bit 166918: so i wish for a simpler time...or maybe a time that never existed

(22:39) Fidormula: the latter is likely

(22:39) lil bit 166918: more likely than not.

(22:39) Fidormula: that doesn't mean that it won't happen

(22:40) Fidormula: though many believe that it will take an all out apocalypse to make it happen

(22:41) lil bit 166918: i may even believe that myself. sometimes the more you meet people and hear their stories, views...it can be baffling how the next generation will run the world.

(22:41) Fidormula: yep

(22:41) Fidormula: it is too complex to point fingers

(22:43) Fidormula: I blame Oprah... mostly for Dr. Phil... I blame petroleum... ultimately, I blame capitalism

(22:44) lil bit 166918: but if it is all connected. if life is a circle and all of us come from the same starting point, where would we be were it not for the above

(22:44) Fidormula: some place else

(22:44) Fidormula: maybe better, maybe worse

(22:44) Fidormula: maybe Europe

(22:45) lil bit 166918: England...maybe anywhere.

(22:45) Fidormula: if history turned out differently, maybe we would just say that we live on Earth

(22:45) Fidormula: and there wouldn't be all of these artificial borders

(22:46) lil bit 166918: and maybe globalization will drop all the borders, if we increase the positives and let go of the negatives.

(22:47) Fidormula: actually, I see globalization as a threat to humanity because, at least in the world of politics, positives and negatives are very subjective

(22:47) Fidormula: often you must question, who is this positive for?

(22:48) lil bit 166918: that is true. the positives are usually only positve for certain people, and negatively for everyone else.

(22:48) Fidormula: that's capitalism

(22:48) lil bit 166918: but...

(22:49) lil bit 166918: but...

(22:49) Fidormula: but?

(22:50) lil bit 166918: thats how i feel 'but.' but cant we do something to change that. why are we sitting here talking with ease, across how many miles in our nice places, air conditioning, cable...and there are people who cant sit on their floor because they dont have one...

(22:51) Fidormula: capitalism causes that too

(22:51) Fidormula: our infrastructure is capable of providing for the rest of the world

(22:52) lil bit 166918: hmm. true. but we are no longer the only super power. we, our country is no longer racing as fast as she once was.

(22:53) lil bit 166918: the world can provide for the world. but its the few above the rest who will stop the flow.

(22:53) Fidormula: that's true too

(22:54) Fidormula: I think that our country has perhaps slowed down, but capitalism hasn't missed a beat

(22:55) lil bit 166918: no, not capitalism. but years ago, when we were in arms races, and encouraging our children to be doctors and scientist we were speeding to the moon. and here we are today. top graduate programs in our colleges are populated by children of other countries.

(22:56) Fidormula: that's not a bad thing, really

(22:57) Fidormula: I mean, the U.S. has always been pretty big on immigrants

(22:58) Fidormula: I think that immigrants might have better 'values' for lack of a better word

(22:59) lil bit 166918: true. but the dilemma is not where are children are in the educational system, i use that as an example to say. this country is comfortable with its title. we think everyone wants to be an American. but where are we challenging ourselves. i do agree that immigrants are more thankful and value their chances in life.

(23:00) Fidormula: that's another important point

(23:00) Fidormula: people are so wrapped up in 'convenience' that they don't stop to think about what might actually be good for them

(23:00) Fidormula: they do what is easy

(23:01) lil bit 166918: which is why we are across seas trying to make a different culture accept our own. why would we be so bold as to think that would work?

(23:01) Fidormula: I don't think we are

(23:01) Fidormula: I think that people are convinced that that's what we are trying to do

(23:02) Fidormula: whether it is about oil, holy wars, or no-bid contracts, I don't think PNAC gives a damn about democracy

(23:03) Fidormula: a political system is very different from a culture, but in this case, both things are foreign

(23:03) lil bit 166918: i, as a young woman on the outside observing, simply feel that i would not want people in my home telling me how to believe and would never ask anyone to believe my way, forcibly(sp?)

(23:04) Fidormula: I agree

(23:04) lil bit 166918: but a political system is a massive part of a culture. take our own for instance

(23:04) Fidormula: well....

(23:04) Fidormula: I agree to disagree

(23:04) Fidormula: people feel like their participation in politics is a cultural experience

(23:04) Fidormula: I feel that it is a meaningless experience

(23:05) lil bit 166918: i agree to agree.

(23:05) lil bit 166918: i feel that you are right

(23:06) Fidormula: if you consider that elections might actually be meaningless (hard to fathom in these days of electronic voting), then their participation is just to make them feel like they have a little bit of power

(23:06) lil bit 166918: but that our culture can often be take it or leave it where other cultures are deeply intertwined

(23:06) lil bit 166918: i agree i have always felt that about our country. as far as voting goes

(23:07) lil bit 166918: no one can hear you.

(23:07) Fidormula: even if they could... nobody cares

(23:07) Fidormula: the two-party system is just another facet of this farce

(23:09) lil bit 166918: farce. the whole thing. how creative, dont u think?

(23:10) Fidormula: well...

(23:10) Fidormula: they've been doing it for thousands of years

(23:10) lil bit 166918: and making millions

(23:10) Fidormula: yep

(23:11) Fidormula: so, do you think George W. will ever be tried for war crimes as Hussein was?

(23:12) lil bit 166918: no. never.

(23:12) lil bit 166918: like father like son.

(23:13) Fidormula: that's one way to put it

(23:13) lil bit 166918: its only a way. just an opinion.

(23:13) Fidormula: although, they would have to put Clinton up for it too

(23:15) lil bit 166918: well im sure there is a list of them.

(23:16) Fidormula: perhaps

(23:16) Fidormula: did you know that his last act as president was to cluster bomb Iraq?

(23:16) lil bit 166918: ...? Clinton?

(23:17) Fidormula: yes

(23:18) Fidormula: some call it a sandwich war

(23:18) lil bit 166918: I had no idea.

(23:18) Fidormula: Bush, Clinton, Bush

(23:18) lil bit 166918: actally

(23:18) lil bit 166918: wow.

(23:19) lil bit 166918: what a concept.

(23:19) Fidormula: just because he's a democrat of a middle class upbringing, that doesn't mean he isn't a war monger who looks out for his own best interests

(23:20) Fidormula: now that the democrats are "in power

(23:20) lil bit 166918: well, in all my research and readings, i have never looked into him.

(23:20) Fidormula: I would imagine not

(23:20) lil bit 166918: thanks. lol

(23:20) Fidormula: well, he was before 9/11

(23:21) lil bit 166918: true. but research into 9/11 should have started with why it happened, no?

(23:21) Fidormula: indeed

(23:22) Fidormula: I don't know... even when people are open minded, there is a tendancy within liberal culture to dismiss democrats as harmless

(23:23) Fidormula: not that I believe in such labels as 'liberal'

(23:23) lil bit 166918: i was just going to say.

(23:23) lil bit 166918: watch how we categorize me...

(23:24) lil bit 166918: okay im heading to bed on that note. you have been so awesome to talk to. im very happy to have met you

(23:24) Fidormula: you're not so bad yourself

(23:24) lil bit 166918: thanks...

(23:24) lil bit 166918: i will talk to you soon.

(23:25) Fidormula: alrighty

(23:25) Fidormula: goodnight

(23:25) lil bit 166918: goodnight.

Session Close (lil bit 166918): Sun Jan 21 23:25:27 2007
