Tentative Proposal / Layout

Cover – Names Fotografía or Underexposed. The cover is going to have a breif summary about what kind of information the zine is going to contain. That will probably be written last considering that we are not sure about all the information in which it will contain. Also of course it will have some type of picture or maybe a collage.

Content

1. Definition- What is photography in general? What does the broad area cover? What we are going to be focusing on. Maybe what comes to find when people hear the word “photography”. -Regina

2. History/Switch to digital – I would like to find the first photographs that were ever taken and explain the process they used. Then move on to different stages in photography as it developed. With new technology there became more effective and efficient ways of taking pictures that’s why there was a switch to digital cameras. I would like to have examples of photographs almost as a time line to see how they have progressed in the last century. A side explanation on camera phones as well. -Farrah

3. Camera of the year/Top 5 user friendly - We are going to research and see what other people think the best Camera is for the year. It will probably be a digital camera so maybe we will have another camera of the year that is not digital. Also the top 5 user friendly cameras will help people who are not very technical but enjoy taking pictures. Basically answer What camera is right for you? -Farrah March 29

4. Workshop – On how to use your camera works. Also focus a lot on what programs you can use to modify pictures and edit them. What programs are better examples of some are Microsoft picture it Express, Dell Picture Studio, HP Photosmart or if the disc that some times come with the camera is better. -Regina

5. Contrast of Photos – Have a some pictures that show the difference in setting on the camera: using the flash, indoor and outdoor. One button can make a big difference. Also photograph comparison between black/white and color. -Regina

6. Photo journalism – We definitely plan to tie into some parts of Ted’s piece. We also explored the God Hates Fags website in class and Bong hits for Jesus. This is going to be a large piece because there are so many pictures that belong to this category we will have to figure out which ones we want to use. We are going to talk briefly about how newspapers and websites can post/display any pictures they want because it is protected by the first amendment. Regina/Farrah

7. A picture is worth a 1000 words. We might tie this idea in with photojournalism. The idea is just have one basic picture and have many people describe it and basically come up with 1000 word description. I was thinking about using Ted’s Genocide Image because many people have already commented on it. That idea is still in progress. Wiki Genocide Image

8. Globalization – This idea came from Regina’s piece about globalization and ties in with the two previous article ideas already. How photography helps us better understand the world that we live in. The idea will be elaborated on later. - Regina

9. Interview – I(Farrah) was thinking about interviewing a friend of my grandmother who is a semi professional photographer. She wants to become a professional but is not there yet. Also Trey mentioned that his brother in law did some work for the St. Petersburg Times when they wrote different articles about the 10 amendments. I could be wrong I can not remember exactly. Interviewing either would be helpful. We did not want to go to a professional photographer because that would be to intense for the purpose of this zine.- farrah

10. The tour of St. Petersburg – We wanted to tie into the local sense where we live and St. Pete seemed perfect. We are having a mini picture tour of the area with little descriptions next to them. We are focusing on Baywalk/Movies, the Pier, Janus Landing, the Dali Museum, Central Avenue, Vinoy Park and Tropicana Field. There may be more added or deleted as we explore more. -Farrah

Proposal

1. Idea/Purpose: Give a varied definition to photgraphy(the discipline, meaning and effect of...)

2. Form: Pictures will be the main inspiration. We will also include journalism, various web resources, and audience to determine direction of writing

3. Idiom: We are aiming at novice photographers and the local(population) where the zine will be distributed for ideas and application that will be of interest

4. Rhetorical: We started working on our ideas a few weeks ago, we have picked from our original writing topics the above eight which we will divided between us to write and edit on our own( hopefully using the wiki to share and colaborate the editing together) and then between classes on Thursdays we are going to begin to take pictures to place in the zine.
