In the last couple of years this debate has grabbed my attention, in some of my investigation I found a book by Thomas Friedmen called __The World is Flat__. Friedmen's take on globalization was labeled by eras: 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. I ran with this.
1.0 was the beginning. Simply stated, it was the time of Christopher Columbus. Colonization was the key, countries were fighting for territory, absorbing land to govern, and creating 'governments.' 1.0 established what would be the world we know today. This phase lasted into the 1800's.
2.0 came next. Welcome this, the era of industrialization. People flocked to cities from the farms searching for new opportunities, careers, and money. Business economy in this time flourished. This phase lasted into the 1900's.
3.0 now. This is now the world of the individual. With information at our finger tips, we can work close together countries apart. This is the information age, a speed of light empowers the individual. For example,it is effectively possible for someone to eat, sleep, work, shop, pay bills, and associate with the world, right from their home, through a computer. We can work for foreign nations without ever stepping into them, attend college without sitting in a classroom.
I want to know what 4.0 will bring...
